Tip 7: Determine the Website Content for Web Design

Regarding a web design, what content should be presented on the website, there is no industry standard. It mainly depends on the website’s objectives. However, the following basic information are commonly found on most websites:

Home Page
It is the first page on a website to be seen by the website visitors. Hence, it is also the most important page to introduce the website to the visitors and to be indexed by search engines. Generally, this page should include the company name, logo, navigation to the rest of the website, product (or service) description, and what visitors can expect to find on the website, etc.

Product (or Service) Page
It is the web page showing the products or services offered. If there are a large number of products with the different categories, it should consider how many products will be displayed. It may display multiple product categories or consider to use a database to show products upon enquiry.

Company (or About Us) Page
It includes the company-related information such as company’s mission statement, the history and philosophy statement, and the introduction of the management team, etc. It may include the necessary information about the company, the talents, skills, materials, services, and/or products offered, plus anything which can attract and benefit the visitors. It may be the testimonials from existing customers, the awards and certification, etc.

Contact Page
Website visitors may contact you if they are interested in your products or services. Hence, it should provide clear contact information such as the physical location of the company (and the factory if any), the mailing address (if different), the phone and fax numbers, the web address, and the email address. Besides, it may include the contact information for different departments and services, the location map, transportation directions, and the office hours, etc. Some websites may prefer to provide a form on the contact page to allow visitors to submit enquiry and collect some visitors’ personal information.

News Page
It includes information such as articles about the business or industry, upcoming programs, trade shows and exhibitions, relevant technology and development, etc.

FAQ Page
It is a web page to contain answers to common frequently asked questions about products, services, order and payment processes, delivery, and support, etc. It can reduce the time and efforts of the sales staffs to answer general questions . Visitors can also promptly find the answers online without having to spend extra time to make an enquiry by phone or via email. If you do not have a list of information to create this page, you may visit your competitors’ websites to get some ideas.

Client Page
It is a web page to contain a list of past and current clients in alphabetical order, by industry, by product, or by project type, etc.

Privacy Policy
If your website collect any personal data from the website visitors, it is suggested
to include a privacy policy to explain how the company will care for the collected data.

Site Map
It is a web page containing a list of organized text links to all the web pages on the website. It provides additional ways for visitors to access other web pages on the website and hence enhance website usability.

Besides, it should consider if the website should provide multiple language version and what language should be available during the web design.
